FAQs

What time does the race start?

Depending on your team’s average mile pace there will be a rolling start so we can all try to finish around the same time. Your team could start as early as 3:00 AM or as late as 5:00 AM

Do you run on any trails?

The short answer is no. The first four legs are on Warm Lake Road. After that, the route shifts to a paved, single-lane forest road, followed by a dirt road for the final stretch. So while you're not technically running on trails, it will definitely feel like it as you make your way through the backcountry.

What is the role of the Volunteer?

Pinepals Relay volunteers play an essential role in keeping the race running smoothly. Each volunteer typically works a 2–4 hour shift, which may take place during setup, takedown, at one of the exchange points, or at the finish line. Their responsibilities can include directing cars to parking areas at exchanges, assisting with logistics, serving refreshments like beer at the finish line, and—just as importantly—cheering on and encouraging the runners throughout the event.

What you get!

Teams will receive an awesome, swag-packed bag that includes a cute Pine Pals hat, snacks, a team snap bracelet, and bib numbers. At the finish line, you’ll also get a Pine Pals reusable metal cup, a token for a free beverage (beer, cider, or seltzer water), and a classic Idaho baked potato!

Where should my team stay?

The race kicks off just outside of Cascade and finishes in McCall, with teams heading out early Saturday morning from Cascade. The two towns are about a 40-minute drive apart. Once you cross the finish line in McCall, expect a fun, celebratory atmosphere.

We recommend looking for accommodations in either Cascade or McCall, depending on your team’s plans. I would check out AIRBNBS, VRBOS, Scandia Inn, Nordic Inn, Best Western Plus, etc.

Should we have a team driver?

You do not need to have a driver. Your volunteer is not your driver.
